  • Third-party data forecasts AMZN US retail sales growth of ~20% y/y in 2024 (LINK). According to third-party data, AMZN US retail sales are expected to be $641.3b in 2024, which would represent an increase of 19.9% y/y. The categories expected to see the fastest sales growth are CDs & vinyl and beauty & personal care, while books and video games are expected to be the slowest growing categories.
  • AMZN reportedly secures rights to stream NFL playoff game (LINK). Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that AMZN’s Prime Video secured the streaming rights to an NFL playoff game next season. This week, various media sources reported that the company is paying either $120m or $150m. For reference, this past season, Peacock reportedly paid $110m for the rights to stream an NFL playoff game.
  • AMZN to join the Dow on 2/26 (LINK). Before market open on Monday, February 26, AMZN will join the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company will replace Walgreens Boots Alliance in the index.
  • JD in talks to acquire Currys (LINK). JD is in early talks to acquire Currys, a UK electronics retailer, and has until March 18th to make an official offer. The announcement of JD’s interest comes after a US investment firm offered ~£700m to acquire the business on Saturday, which Currys rejected, though the investor may make an additional bid on the company.
